Forget the car - you can ski in and out of this fabulous modern chalet in Chinaillon, Le Grand Bornand! It’s also just a short walk into the village, which has a good choice of shops, bars and restaurants, so you’ll never have too far to go to pick up some fresh bread in the morning, or to enjoy a delicious Savoyard meal in the evening. Le Grand Bornand is the birthplace of Reblochon cheese, so expect it to figure heavily on the menu! There’s even a weekly Reblochon market on Wednesdays, where you can pick up your own ingredients for a tasty tartiflette. Le Grand Bornand has been awarded the Famille Plus label, which recognises a high level of facilities for parents and children.
Modern ski chalet designed to make sure your holiday is just perfect
This modern semi-detached chalet has been built with holidays in mind. Ski to your front door, then pop your boots on to the heated boot dryer before heading upstairs to the lovely open plan living area. Under-floor heating and an open fire will soon have you warmed up! There’s a separate area for those who want to watch TV (English satellite service is provided), or you could soothe your aching limbs in the sauna. The chalet sleeps up to 8 in four cosy bedrooms, and there are three bathrooms, so you’ll never have to queue. All the bedrooms have balconies with great views, and there’s a lovely sunny terrace to the side of the house, ideal for al fresco meals or perhaps a barbecue in the summer.
So much to discover, with or without skis, in the beautiful Aravis
You won’t waste a minute getting to the slopes at Chalet L’ours Blanc - just ski down to the ski lift! From here you can ski the whole of the Massif Aravis - 220km of pistes - on one ski pass. The resorts of La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand are linked by ski bus too, so you’ll never be stuck for a lift home. There are plenty of cross-country ski trails in the Bouchet valley, as well as several routes from Chinaillon village. Beginners in this sport will love the Evo Nordic Park, which has a circuit featuring a variety of terrains, while boarders will appreciate the Snowpark. Non-skiers can go ice-skating or swimming in La Clusaz, where the heated indoor and outdoor pools are open all year round, or try snowshoeing, sledging, dog-sledding and sleigh rides.

If you’re looking for an action-packed summer holiday you’ll be spoiled for choice at Chalet L’Ours Blanc. A network of walking and biking trails cover the mountains, and you can pick up a route map for either at the tourist office. There’s a fantastic swimming pool complex in Le Grand Bornand, with a restaurant and grassy areas for picnics. If you’re looking for something a little more challenging, there’s a climbing school, via ferrata routes, a tree-top adventure park, canyoning, white-water rafting and paragliding all nearby. August sees the International Children’s Festival in Le Grand Bornand - a week of puppet shows, circus acts and workshops, with a grand firework finale.
Mountains, towns and lakeside beaches less than an hour from the airport
Under an hour from Geneva airport, Chalet L’Ours Blanc is ideally placed for discovering the French Alps. You’ll have everything you need within a short walk of the chalet, but if you want to venture further afield, there is plenty more to see. A weekly market is held in La Clusaz, which also has a good choice of restaurants. There are larger supermarkets in Thônes, just 20 minutes drive away. The medieval town of Annecy, just beyond Thônes, is a must for a day out, whatever the season. It offers a unique mix of shops, restaurants, galleries and museums, and Lake Annecy, said to be the cleanest lake in Europe, is a great place for watersports, swimming, cycling or just relaxing on the beach.
